Resource Review: JUMP Math

JUMP Math is a “research-based curriculum that takes a balanced approach to math”(JUMP Math, 2018). Through their concept of “guided discovery”, JUMP Math combines instruction with student inquiry; while highly encouraging growth mindset theories and developing an incremental application. JUMP Math is a game-changing teaching tool. It is a detailed resource that offers lesson plans, worksheets, and assessments that help teachers cover all strands in the Canadian curriculum,
This resource can be used in a Math class for all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The concept of “growth mindset” is an innovative and new theory that has taken Canada by storm. JUMP Maths’ principals reflect this in their content. It is imperative to have a positive outlook on math and its challenges. This later affects the understanding, ability, and interpretation of math on each student. JUMP Math provides a structured way to create and shape the minds of students. It is considered one of the Top 10 Impact Charities of 2017 which was implemented by Charity Intelligence Canada. If it was not recognized enough, JUMP Math was also featured in the New York Times and the Globe and Mail. It has won the 2016 World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) award. Showing better ways to teach Math and make math make sense to everyone.
JUMP Math is a teacher resource for professional development.
Implementing a change so that students are not passively listening to math lesson but actively engaging in the concepts being presented. This is a great resource, however, I am very creative in my lessons. I would hope that teachers use this resource as a platform to work from but also incorporate their own teaching style and assessment based on the ability of their students.
