In 2017, I was invited to the Physical Health Education Canada’s Healthy School Communities Forum. Here I met with community partners and education leaders and took part in the renovation and reconstruction of the meaning of health in our schools. This conference allowed me to meet with teachers to connect and share innovated ideas to promote and create healthier schools and communities.
Speakers from all across Canada attended the event. Many powerful speakers delivered messages on the importance of wellness, support and integration strategies in and outside of the classroom.
Topics covered in the forum included :
Creating a safe space for students
Non-Athletic forms of staying healthy in the classroom
Aids for Self-Regulation
Peers helping peers
Building parental connections
Panel discussion on Outdoor play. Questioning: Are we bubble wrapping our students too much? Discussion focused on developing and enhancing mental health literacy.
Creating a community of practice: The dynamics of freedom, agency and opportunity combined and how it allows for increase in autonomy
All of the wonderfully informative workshops began with a re-energizing mindfulness session. This sparked my interest in Mindful Moments!
I left the forum feeling refreshed, recharged and inspire to bring healthy and active activities into the classroom!
