Dear Pearline,
I hope teacher’s college is as fun, and educational as you expected. Never forget how you started, and way you wanted to do this in the first place. At a young age, you had hopes of becoming a professional dancer. It has always been your passion. When you would learn a new dance move you would love showing your friends and family members how to do it. You then realized that you enjoyed teaching others what you know. You enjoyed the feeling of someone acquiring a new skill and feeling good after they have master how to do it. You loved being apart of that growth .
This year you hope to absorb all that you can when learning to teach in a classroom. You want to give your input in lesson plans and teach other students the value of education. You want to be able to grow and build on your skills so that you can construct your own lesson plan and execute to a class and see the class in their understanding. Later learning how to create a unit and an assessment that is valid of the skills displayed in the curriculum. In addition to planned learning, you would like to develop stronger classroom management skills. Learn how to mediate through behavioural issues, student challenges and different needs that need support in the classroom. You have had experience with children with physical and mental delay, children with average developing abilities and children with behavioural needs. However, you haven’t had the opportunity to experience all degrees of support simultaneously while trying to teach a class. A final skill you would like to work on is how to approach students who are struggling and who are afraid to help. How to approach the situation when students have no motivation to work and try something new.
This is not going to be easy but remember how you are going to become a educator. Becoming an educator is a large learning curve. It is not something that can be learned overnight, but thought a gradual process on learning and application. You want to be an educator not a regurgitator. Remember that. Learning through inquiry and hands on learning will impact students and educators in the development of greater understanding. You plan to learn through experiences. By asking questions, participating, and being present in the classroom during my CSL and practicum. Taking note of the theories and principles taught in class and constantly observing and also being involved. Pearline take initiative, and be open to try new things. By this time hopefully you would have and still continue to collect and build a repertoire of activities and lesson plans that you can use as a base for when you begin teaching. This will help prepare you for what you may be challenged with in the future. Keep it up.
At this moment you believed that this year is full of possibilities, and full of promise. This is the being if you future. The chapter in your life that is the framework of your career. You are ready for new experiences to adapt, shape and form your abilities to teach to it’s optimal level. Right now you are well aware that the workload aspect will be mentally draining however, it is just another part of the growth process and all teacher candidates will face.
Remember the kind of teacher you want to become. You aspire to be a teacher that encourages a active and healthy lifestyle. You want all children to learn and understand the importance of education. You would love to become a teacher that anyone can come to for help. You want your students to be comfortable with telling you that they do not understand the concept. You would like to prove to your students that what they learn is useful, and practical for real life problems. Although you are a teacher, you will also have your students know that you also make mistakes and it is all about growth and reflection. You want your students to know that we can learn from each other. You want to be an educator that advocates for positivity and the importance of being optimistic because there are always better days to come. And that is something you were taught and it has been life long lesson that you promise send to all individuals in your life.

Keep pushing; you’re almost there,
